Different types of zong zi is as follows; Hokkien zong zi - the rice is seasoned in soy sauce and five spices is used as seasoning. Nyonya zong zi - butterfly pea flower, candied winter melon and pandan leaves is used. Hainanese zong zi - mushrooms and chunkier ingredients form the fillings. Cantonese zong zi - salted egg yolk, mung beans is used and the rice is seasoned in salt and garlic water. Teochew zong zi - chestnut, pork belly and ball of red bean or lotus paste is used. Hakka zong zi - pork belly, preserved vegetables, mushrooms is used.
