Bentuk muncung buaya berbeza antara spesies. Suku buaya sejati mempunyai muncung yang lebar mahupun runcing, sedangkan suku aligator rata-rata bermuncung lebar.
Otot penutup buaya sangat kuat dan melekap di bahagian median rahang bawah sementara engsel rahang melekap pada sendi atlantooksiput, membolehkan buaya untuk membuka mulut luar-luas. Kita boleh tanya penjage di situ semasa lawatan untuk pengetahuan selanjut. Kenapa buaya selalu buka mulut?
